My mother was a painter. She took evening classes. When I was 10 years old she said her teacher was looking for a young model and did I want to sit for the class. My answer was an enthusiastic "YES!" I marveled at how each artist in the class had their own individual interpretation of what they were looking at. It was then that I decided I wanted to be an artist.
I use many different mediums, such as wax, inks, oils, acrylics, pencils, and pastels.
I also love collage.
I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
Looking at art always inspires me. I worked at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for many years and during my breaks I would spend time browsing the galleries. When I worked there, the museum was closed on Mondays. I remember spending hours just lying on the floor at the deKooning exhibition as if wrapped in a warm colorful blanket of great painting.
Collaborating with other creatives is one of the most gratifying part of being an artist. In the Fluxus sense of the word, it is like creating a third artist. Click on the button below and check out The Visual Passion Duo. Gerard Amsellem and me.
